It’s the 100th day of school and my kindergarten class is celebrating with cardstock crowns and funfetti cupcakes for snack. As our sugar highs set in, we’re divided into groups of ten and given a challenge:

In the center of each table is a bucket of miscellaneous prizes; hidden amongst the distractions of Disney princess stickers, crayons, and lollipops, our group is told to find 100 mood rings.

After locating all the rings (and proving to our teachers that the past 99 days of school did successfully teach us how to count!) we were giddy to find out how mood rings worked. (And of course, being only six, we never questioned their validity…)

To the best of my recollections, here’s how mood rings work on kindergarteners:

• If the ring you put on was blue-green to begin with, you behaved calmly, eager to prove that the ring judged your character correctly. (Because you wanted the other sugar hyper kids to think you were, in fact, a cool-calm-and-collected kid.)
• If the ring was black (signifying a foul mood) and you wanted it to be blue, you got angry and stomped your light up sneakers because, “It doesn’t work! I’m not mad! Grrrr!!”
• And if it turned pink for love you took it as a sign that Timmy really did think you were cute and decide that you should totally let him hold your hand.

The moral of my story? Mood rings work. At least, if you’re under the age of 10 and believe that they will work. The same thing is true for financial independence.  If you believe you deserve financial independence, you’ll find a way to be financially independent.

On workdays when I don’t have class, I like to visit my friends from high school at their jobs. Now college freshmen, they’re regularly assigned tasks like answering phones, fetching coffee, or spreading strawberry cream cheese on my cinnamon-sugar bagel. (Yum!)

We can all agree Temple Run is a seriously addicting game. Since I’ve racked up millions of points over 588 games, it would be great if I could justify all the time I spend playing by saying Temple Run has actually taught me something. (Wouldn’t it be even better if I could say it’s helped me earn student income?)

When I first downloaded Temple Run the highest objective you could reach was 5 million points.

Since I believed that was the maximum amount of points it was possible to earn, my score hovered at around 4.5 million for weeks. Suddenly, a friend in my Psych class broke 10 million and posted his winnings to instagram with the challenge, “Get at me! ” Determined to beat his score I completed my first 11 million point run in a matter of days.

Just like when Roger Bannister first broke the four minute mile, simply knowing that it was possible to hit 10 million points allowed me to surpass that goal. Within a week all of my friends’ high scores had doubled.

Still, no one achieved anything much higher than a 15 million point run until one of us hit 28,000,000.

The gist of this story? When one of my friends did exceptionally well our scores all miraculously improved.

So what had changed? Our belief systems. Just like runners found with breaking the four minute mile, once one person proves something is possible, others are easily able to replicate their results.

Since getting home from school today I’ve done two things: first, I watched a rerun of Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Next, I read an article that was adamant that online business can’t provide the same value as businesses that operate in a physical office from the hours of nine to five.

Do you see the connection here? Oddly enough, the episode of Always Sunny that I watched gave me the tools I need to prove that article wrong. You CAN make money blogging, and Dennis Reynolds and I will show you how.

Make Money Blogging: How I do it

You see, the article I read claims that it’s just too difficult for bloggers to prove that their businesses have enough value to attract customers; the plot of the episode I watched revolved around Dennis “proving his value” to women in an effort to bang them.

It might sound silly, but you can use his system to really “hit a home run” with your online business. With his advice you can easily “score” with your customers. You’ll learn to make money online as easily as you “walk the dog.” (Nailed it!)

 While Dennis Reynolds–Philadelphia’s resident dirt bag/womanizer on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia–uses this system to pick up chicks, YOU can use it to make money blogging.

The “D” in “Dennis” stands for demonstrate value. You need to prove to prospective customers that the products your blog endorses are top notch. To make money blogging, you’ll need to sell items you personally believe in. To demonstrate that other people believe in them too, add testimonials and reviews to your posts.

E – Engage physically. You have to make the first move! As soon as a customer gives you their email address, hit them up with a freebie like an audio or ebook that will help them get started using your products. The goal of your “flirting” is that these people will decide they like you too, and you’ll end up being business partners when they join your MLM or purchase products through your blog.

N – Nurture dependence. If you really want to make money blogging you need to be there for your followers. Don’t make them look to other blogging gurus for help filling in the gaps! Once they land on your blog make sure they don’t leave until they’re satisfied they’ve found all the info they need to start a blog of their own. Encourage prospective customers to email you if they have questions about your blog/products and be enthusiastic about teaching them how to make money blogging.

N – Neglect emotionally… just kidding! (Hey I told you Dennis was a shady guy!) On the contrary you want to make an effort to get to know your customers. Network marketing is about cooperation and working together to build a successful business, but it doesn’t happen over night. If any of your leads get cold feet or start to get discouraged while building their blogs, make sure you’re around to encourage them to keep going! (It takes Google anywhere from three to four months to start paying attention to new blogs, help your customers be patient!) Which leads me to…

I – Inspire hope: Building a business online is exciting! It’s a fun way to generate passive income by writing about what you love. So hype it up! Make sure to tell your followers/customers how much you truly enjoy being your own boss and working from home. If you can make money blogging, they can too! Remind them of the benefits often.

S – Separate entirely. Okay, maybe not entirely…but after you’ve given your customers the tools they need, step back and watch their businesses grow as they start to make money blogging!
